Stars Avenue

One of the attractions of the Park Zdrojowy (Spa Park) is the Avenue of Stars on which there are cast in bronze “Little Suns” to honour eminent personages of the music world related to Krystyna Jamroz International Music Festival. Their author is Jacek Kucaba, sculptor from Tarnów. The honourable “Little Suns” in Busko-Zdrój are unveiled personally by stars who come to the health resort every year. So far, the Little Suns has shined their full light for:

Krzysztof Penderecki

– Polish composer, teacher and conductor known all over the world. Former professor and chancellor of the Polish Higher School of Music in Cracow. Doctor honoris causa e.g. of the Jagiellonian University, Yale University and the Academy of Music in Cracow.

He composed e.g. Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima and the String Quartet, St. Luke Passion (Lauds), Cosmogony, Magnificat, Paradise Lost – J. Milton, Te Deum – dedicated to John Paul II, Polish Requiem, Symphony No. 5 Korea II, Seven Gates of Jerusalem.

He is related to Busko-Zdrój through K. Jamroz International Music Festival during which he gave concerts several times.

Bogusław Kaczyński

Bogusław Kaczyński– publicist and music critic, musicologist, journalist and presenter. An author of a number of publications and music reviews in such magazines as: “Ruch Muzyczny” (Music Movement), “Teatr” (Theatre) and “Kultura” (Culture). Author of many television and radio programmes in Poland and all over the world e.g. the “Magic world of operetta” and “Revelations of the month”. He is considered the greatest promoter of classical music in Poland. Founder of the Music Festival in Łańcut and director of Jan Kiepura Festival in Krynica. Author of the series of records “Bogusław Kaczyński – Gold Collection”. He was honoured with many prestigious prizes and awards.

Krystyna Jamroz

Krystyna Jamroz– Polish opera singer. Soloist who gave concerts on the biggest national stages – the Wrocław Opera, the Poznań Opera and the Warsaw Opera – later, the Grand Theatre. She played 45 leading roles e.g. of Aida in the opera of Giuseppe Verdi, Mother Joan of the Angels in the “Devils of Loudun” by Penderecki, Donna Elvira in “Don Giovanni” by Mozart. She gave concerts on stages all over the world.

Krystyna Jamroz received a number of awards e.g. the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. Since 1994 in honour of Krystyna Jamroz in her home town Busko-Zdrój under her patronage there has been organised the International Music Festival which is visited every year by guests from all over the world.

Wiesław Ochman

Wiesław Ochman– Polish opera singer. One of the greatest promoters of Polish art in the world. He started his career with concerts in the Silesian Opera. He also performed in the Cracow Opera and the Grand Theatre in Warsaw. Esteemed on the biggest stages in the world e.g. La Scala in Milan, Madrid, Barcelona and Moscow. Since 1972 he gave concerts in the Paris Opera, in Chicago and San Francisco. In 1975 for the first time appeared on the New York stage of the Metropolitan Opera. He also deals with directing and his other great passion – painting. Moreover, Wiesław Ochman is known for his charity activities, is laureate of many prestigious national and international awards.

Małgorzata Walewska

Małgorzata Walewska– Polish singer, mezzosopranist. Since 1991 associated with the Grand Theatre in Warsaw. She made her debut with the role of Aza in “Manru” by K. Penderecki. On the stage of the Vienna Stadtoper she appeared with such notability as Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo. Małgorzata Wawelska received applause on the biggest stages in Europe and the United States. In 1999 on a list made by the British weekly “Time” she was among ten, the most famous Poles as “one of the stars who will light up Polish road in the next millennium”.

Konstanty Andrzej Kulka

Konstanty Andrzej Kulka– one of the most eminent Polish violinists. His international career started in 1964 when he won in the international radio competition ARD in Munich. He played e.g. with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra and London Symphony Orchestra. He composed numerous pieces for radio and television as well as records. A significant part of his artistic output is the 20-th century classical music. A laureate of numerous awards and distinctions such as e.g. the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Prize of the Minister of Foreign Affairs “For outstanding merits in promotion of Polish culture abroad”.

Barbara Hesse-Bukowska

– eminent Polish pianist and educator. She became popular in the world thanks to the 2nd prize in the 4th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in 1949. In 1962 as a pianist she was honoured with the medal of Harriet Cohen Foundation in London. Barbara Hesse-Bukowska gave concerts all over the world. In 1963 she started to teach. A member of numerous international piano competitions. She made a lot of records and radio music. Professor Barbara Hesse-Bukowska initiated and organised the festival “Summer with Chopin” which has been held in Busko-Zdrój continuously since 1994. Participants of the festival are young pianists from all over the world.

Piotr Paleczny

– eminent Polish pianist, laureate of numerous international piano competitions, graduate of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw where today he works as a professor. He became world famous thanks to the 3rd prize in the 8th Fryderyk Chopin Competition. Piotr Paleczny gave concerts with the most prestigious orchestras in the world such as e.g. the Chicago Symphony, the Royal Philharmonic and the Berlin Philharmonic. He is also an artistic director of the International I. J. Paderewski Piano Competition in Bydgoszcz as well as the International Chopin Piano Festival in Duszniki- Zdrój. Piotr Paleczny received a number of prestigious national and international awards.
